Mustang Adoption this weekend

Happened to be driving by the Santa Clara County Horseman's Association grounds just as they were offloading and sorting the mustangs for adoption this weekend. There were ten yearling fillies, ten yearling geldings, five 3 and 4 year old mares, five 2 and 3 year old geldings and five each jacks and jennies. I took some pics.

This pinto caught my eye in the internet adoption last month. He has a very unique marking on his hind leg that you can see in the picture. He has such a kind face. And now he is in Santa Clara! Must not take horse trailer.

They have a lot of them from the internet adoption there. I guess adoptions are down right now.

If they did and no one takes him, he will have 3 strikes I think - 2 for sure.

The palominos were all solid. I think there were three of them.

What anyone thinking of getting one should know is that these horses are young, with a lot of growing still ahead for them. These horses come from herds with BIG mature horses. At our Napa adoption last year, I heard a lot of people complain that the horses were too small for them. Most of them are not - they just aren't done growing.

A lot of these were good sized and it was obvious that the smaller of the yearlings were just wee babies. I'm sure several of them were no more than 5 or 6 months old. There were only a few of them that looked like they would be under 15 hands at maturity. The rest all looked much bigger. The gray two year old gelding was already over 15 hands.

I happened to be driving by there on Saturday. I saw that big grey from the road. He seemed quite stout and bigger than the others. Built kinda drafty. Did he get adopted?

Not that I need one, but he did catch my eye. I didn't stop...was on motorcycle and didn't want to spook the mustangs.

the gray horse that was in the pen with the burros. That horse was about 200-250 pounds overweight, but he did look like he might have some draft in him, too. That was a saddle horse someone brought, although it looked like he hadn't seen a wet saddle blanket in a looooooooong time!
The gray two year old was tall and kind of refined looking, but with adequate bone.
