folks around here tell me that now that the grass in the pasture is turning brown, I need to be even more careful with the horse's grazing time. They say that it's at it's most "dangerous" stage when it first goes brown.
Is there any truth to this? I'd really like to be able to turn the horses out in the morning, on my way to work, but if it's better to keep them in longer - to limit their grazing time...I will.
I just don't know what's best for my horse.
Thanks for your thoughts, and advice
Yes its true nd limiting grazing time does not limit intake
There is a good amount of research showing that limiting access time doesn't necessarily limit intake. In fact horses can consume most of their daily requirement in 3-4 hours or less. A grazing muzzle is the way to go it limits intake by about 85% in some cases. Early morning grazing is safest at this time of year but stressed plants lay down more sugars so be careful.
