Hauling cost

Any body have a clue as to what I would be looking at in cost to haul a horse from Calgary,Alberta to Califonia?

You.. You are probably looking from 1 pr mile to almost 1.75 But all depending on if the trailer is full going both directions amount of time/stops etc

If you need the horse by a certain date and its coming up quickly i would definately start calling and see if you can find a trailer going that direction that is full(But don't give up safety,quality of the haul/trailer etc) for a super cheap price.

I have had a few horses brought to me here in CA from Calgary. It has generally cost around $800. If you want the name of a good professional hauler, let me know. You could also contact Spruce Meadows about loads coming to CA from there, as their first major tournament just finished, so there should be loads leaving.

It cost me more than $800 to have a horse hauled from Ramona, ca to Livermore. I am thinking its going to be 2,000 to 3,000 ?

the hauling costs has several factors, including whether you have to have another shipper meet the horse at the border. The north/south hauls are a little harder to do than cross-country. Another complication is that the normal route south from Calgary crosses the border in MT, and misses the Bay Area by sometimes 100 miles. However, Hubbard has a layover location in Bellingham, which can be used with some shippers. If you would like some Canadian hauling contacts I can send you at least one. Unless you can get a US hauler going there with a load already, you will have to either hire someone there or coordinate with a private person making a trip. US commercial shippers can't go to Calgary expressly for your horse. How much it will cost depends on how lucky you get coordinating the shipping.

have to arrange a border broker. Commercial haulers will do that for you, and the cost very reasonable.

Please don't forget to check the border crossing regulations. Also, some of the commercial haulers are not licensed to take horses across the US Canada border.

to get a recommendation on border crossing. There will be more fees for xing the border and then the haul. I know it is cheaper by private haul...I wouldn't be surprised at $1.50 or more plus the border fees.
