static electricity and flysheet

Insects love to eat my pony. Her soft mesh flysheet is protecting her very well. However, when it is hot and dry and I take the flysheet off, I hear the pop-pop-poppity-pop of static electricity. She pins her ears so I think she feels the shocks. Is there a way to lessen the static? Because of her build, she can only wear Hug necked products so she is kind of limited in the style of flysheet she can wear, so I can't really try many different flysheets.

I used to take some Bounce dryer sheets and rub them on the horse underneath the sheet before removing it. That worked well. Would love to know what other folks do.

I've even tied them into the leg straps before and left them there which seemed to help.

My horses tails are all static right now from the wind.

I'm not having the issue with a fly sheet, but I'm having it in general. I think the wind has made a lot of static in the air, and I notice that I'm shocking my ponies whenever I pet or touch them. Which is an issue. I just started doubling up on dryer sheets, and I think I'll try rubbing the horses down with them too.

There is a spray for static cling... I keep it in my car because on windy days there is no way to work on a horse if I keep shocking them like a hotwire fence, lol. I just spray it on my hands, but I'd imagine you could spray the inside of the sheet down too.

Got a box of dryer sheets and sprayed the flysheet with static spray after I washed it. Thanks for the tips!

Keep one of your palms on the horse's skin when you remove the sheet. I'm not sure why but it definitely helps the static charge from jumping around and popping the horse. Maybe it makes the human some kind of ground...
