Not mine, but there was a big warmblood I used to know that was Level 4 dressage with only one eye. Had a prosthetic with a little lens for competing. I rode a stud horse with one eye for a friend of mine a couple times. He got fired from the cutting pen for getting cranky when the cow turned to his blind side, so I was trying to retrain him for trail class. He did everything OK except he could never settle during the gate obstacle. My old mare was retired when she went blind in one eye, and she had also gone deaf by then, so she would get pretty scared when the horses in her pasture began running around without her knowing why. I think most horses get along just fine with only one eye. I have a few clients with one eye'd horses. One is a OTTB that lost his eye while racing and a jockey slashed it open while whipping his horse (not on purpose but must have been horrid). The horse is a happy boy, working as a dressage horse and jumping small jumps for his owner. The other 2 are dressage horses. Each is happy and well adjusted.

A foal I sold one time lost his eye.

And he went on to be one of the best working ranch horses on the ranch. He also was used one summer on the dude string up at Kennedy Meadows when they were first training him for trails. It was as though he never knew he had an eye on that side. He is still one of their grandkids favorite working cow horse on the ranch. East of Sonora,CA Tuolumne County North East of Yosemite.

I was riding a mare for years that gradually lost sight in one eye due to glaucoma. She didn't learn to jump until she had already lost sight on the one side and she did just fine. Sometimes she would need a little more support on that blind side, like keeping a hand on her neck while grooming that side so she didn't swing her head around and bump anything. Once she had the eye physically removed she was a much happier horse and she was great on the trails and totally functional otherwise. loosen up your budgie smugglers http://snowyridge.blogspot.com Front Range, Colorado

My beloved mare Sony, an appy/TB, had carcinoma in one eye. I should have let the vet take the eye out, we opted to treat, but it came back and eventually her eye was removed. She was much happier with one eye only and got around fine, the relief from the pain of the recurring cancer was apparent.

And they acted the same as the horses with both eyes. The one thing I did do when I was approaching on their blind side was make sure that I spoke to them so they knew I was coming and I also touched them when I approached them on their blind side so they knew where I was when I was close. cancer...I THINK it was. I was sooo worried about him, but he did great after the eye was removed. As others have said, the relief from the pain was obvious, and he was much happier!

3 day evented with him. If you stayed true and held firm he could fly. Would run out if you faltered, but what smart horse will leave the ground if you're not sure about it? lol. Have dealt with others, no problems. Don't surprise him on his blind side. Illegetimi non carborundum.

Competed him in eventing (at Novice, schooling Training) and hunter paces for years after he lost sight in his left eye. He also drag hunted, went camping, rode sidesaddle, even tried team penning and barrels - all sorts. Never stopped him at all.

A friend got him from another friend who needed a younger horse a few months ago. She rescued him 3 years ago as an intact stud with an eye injury that caused him to lose sight. He still has the eye but it really doesn't seem to make a difference at all that he can't see out of it. He's the sweetest most un-studly horse ever. Loves kids and really doesn't seem to know that eye is missing. Love him to pieces... I know most animals can adapt really well if given time to adjust. My horse lost all (or most) of his vision about a year ago due to uveitis. He has adjusted very well. You can't tell by looking at him or by his behavior. He is still the same great horse he has always been. He doesn't run into things,not spooky nothing.
