my old fellow was on Previcox for an extended period with no ill effects, he clearly felt better when on it and I was so happy to have found a product that helped him so much. I crushed it with the back of a spoon and added that to a small amt of molassass, then put that on top of his grain so he ate it first, it is a tiny amt! I don't see why there would be a problem with continuing his joint supplements, but asking the vet is a good idea. my vet prescribed a loading dose of 1/2 pill for 5 days as it does take some time to be effective.

I have a 28 year-old with multiple injuries and arthritis. I have him on Previcox off and on, mostly on. I try to give it to him 3 or 4 days a week and makes a world of difference in his comfort. I give half of a 57mg pill (which is half the recommended dosage) and he seems to do well on that dosage. I cut up a chunk of carrot, carve out a hole and pop the pill in the hole. Never had a problem, eats it right up and I have a very picky, suspicious eater. I keep him on all of his supplements for joint, etc and recently started him on a hind gut supplement because Previcox can inhibit the production of mucosa in the gut. Since being on the supplement for hind gut I noticed his appetite has picked up, so he may have had a little discomfort. "Life is hard; it's harder if you're stupid." John Wayne

And it really helped him with no side effects. He is also on smartpak senior flex (no herbs) and CA Trace

I used to use it for my mare when she would get shod. She had very thin soles and would get sore easily even though the farrier never touched it. She was much happier with her pre-dose of Previcox. I would also cut a piece of carrot and bury the 1/4 tab in it. My horses are also weird thought as they'll eat the tab by itself from my hand. If you were given a prescription for it and have a Costco membership they have it at a really good price. I picked some up for my dog and it was around $26 for 10 tabs of the 257 mg size. Their price for 60 tabs was also better than what I've paid before but I can't remember it off hand. http://www.silverlegacyequine.com

and Charlie is acting a fool tonight at dinner LOL. He was kicking up his heels and moving out wanting to come in for dinner. I haven't seen him move like that for over a year! I brought him in quickly because I didn't want the silly boy to hurt himself. If this is due to the previcox then I am amazed, at 3 days? Really? That's unbelievable. Tonight he got a "cookie", tomorrow we'll try the carrot trick cuz he'll get bored of the cookie. I have had my old mare [almost 27] on it for about 3 years now, it's a miracle drug! Made the mistake of taking her off of it for a few months, what a noticeable difference!!!!!!!!!! She is much more comfy and perky on it. I also use joint supps [Cosequin ASU Plus] along with Accel Lifetime [contains microbials and yeast] and LOTS of fresh ground flax [also an anti-inflammatory] The one warning I have is DO NOT administer bute while horse is on Prevacox, that is the only danger I know of, not to mix them Here's the old lady, feeling fiiiiinnnnneeee
