castro valley living, boarding and riding

we are looking at a house in castro valley. seems like there is a lot of equestrian stuff going on there. does anyone live or board horses in CV? how do you like it?

There are a LOT of barns along Crow Canyon. Are you looking for a boarding situation, or keeping horses at home?

I've been up to Shiloh West (http://shilohwest.net/) a number of times. Also have friends with horse property (home + small pasture & barn) in a community just northwest of the Crow Canyon / Hwy 680 interchange.

Also on Cull Canyon Rd and used to be on Eden Canyon and Palomares Rd. It's been years since I lived there though.

been found on Palomares road over the years. Horse woman and her husband found one years ago @ a staging area.

Although never a resident I have spent some time visiting and riding in that area. Palomares is a very long road in a rural area so I suppose it could be a depository for urban criminals, but that is true of any remote area.
The East Bay has some great riding and that is a nice area. I'd be more concerned about poison oak or being mowed down by a bicyclist.

and absolutely love it! Castro Valley is THE horse area of the east bay. The only negative i have is alot of places you have to trailer out to get in a long trail ride, because its mostly canyon. Great area, mostly upper/mid class homeowners. I have yet to see low cost/section 8 housing in the area, and low, low crime rate. Did I mention good schools?? I love Castro Valley! I live in Hayward now, but only because my relationship went south and I had to find affordable housing in a hurry.
