Why did you go from 50% girls in year 1 to 100% girls in year 2?
The expected number of boys a family will have is:
0*.5 + 1*.25 + 2*.125 + 3*.0625 + ...
This sums to 1.
A better small example would be:
year 1: bbbbbbbbgggggggg
year 2: bbbbgggg
year 3: bbgg
year 4: bg
