I have no idea if this puzzle has already been posted on this site..
If a 40 kilo rock falls off a cliff and breaks into 4 parts..
Using those 4 parts and a set of scales, nothing else, any amount of grain between 1 kilo and 40 kilo can be measured provided it is an exact multiple of 1 kilo..
In other words 4 numbers that add up to 40 can be used with + and - symbols to produce all the round numbers between 1 and 40. (each number may only be included a maximum of once in the equation)..
What are the weights of the four pieces of rock?
In other words what are the four numbers?
Please start your replies with the words solution is
-so as not to make the solution visible to people who want to have a go from this forum.
