That is much clearer and cleaner than what I ended up with. I did initially try something like p = auvmn / [vn(m - 1) + u(n - 1)] but I mistakenly used * rather than + in the denominator and so was getting really bogus results. After that I used the balance equation b(a,r,p) = a(1+r)^12-(p/r)[(1+r)^12-1]. i.e. I solved b(b(a,u,p),v,p)=0 for p. I wasn't smart enough to factor our the denominator into two parts.
