...tonight ABC re-aired Episode #216: "The Good Fairy Strikes Again," part 2, which originally aired January 28, 1971.
Durwood is frantic to get to work on the Reduce-a-lator campaign but can’t concentrate as Mary the Good Fairy a.k.a. Tooth Fairy has gone missing leaving Samantha to do her job. Samantha suggests she’ll go out to look for her but Durwood reminds her it won’t look too good for her to go out in the fairy costume. Luckily Mary returns as she decided she needed some more brandy to warm her bones. Durwood has locked the cabinet and Samantha won’t let Mary have anymore until she agrees to take back on her job. Not wanting to be a burden, Mary goes out for a walk and Mrs. Kravitz sees her and asks her in to interrogate her. Seeing as how she couldn’t get any more brandy from Durwood and Sam, Mary tells Mrs. Kravitz that she could use something to warm her bones. When Mary reveals who she is to Gladys, she runs off screaming to tell Abner but when she comes back she sees that Mary has left. Now totally sauced Mary goes flitting down the street and gets picked up by the police and taken into jail. Gladys sees this and immediately runs over to the Stephens to tell them. She catches Samantha with a pink shawl on covering what is obviously her wings but she can’t delve into it anymore as she is reminded that Samantha’s sense of privacy is bigger than her sense of curiosity.
Durwood runs down to the police station to bail Mary out and when he comes back his secretary calls to say that Larry and Mr. Ferber, the inventor of the Reduce-a-lator, are on their way to look at his ideas. Before they can panic, the door rings and Samantha runs into the den. Durwood tries to stall them but Larry insists he show them his ideas so he goes into the den only to be surprised to find Samantha in the Reduce-a-lator. She tells them that she was going to model it for Durwood and then finds that one of the buttons, the one that turns off the sauna has broke and she begins to cook before the gentleman tear the suit off her, shocked to find her in the white dress with wilted wings. Durwood, off the cuff, says his idea was to incorporate the Good Fairy with the slogan, “Fly now, Reduce a Later!” Oddly enough Mr. Ferber loves it and signs McMann and Tate.
After the men leave, Samantha prepares to serve Bloody Marys and sees that Mary is irritated that the wings are so wilted. She claims she would’ve never let them get that way. Samantha also asks her what she should do about the kids she missed the night before which shocks Mary. She tells Samantha she’ll have to leave earlier and when Samantha goes to look at her watch, she spills her Bloody Mary causing Mary to be beside herself. Sam says she’ll just throw it in the wash but Mary tells her she can’t just ‘warsh’ it in the ‘warshing’ machine, that it’s made from spun milkweed and has to be cleaned by flying low over a wheat field. She decides that she was doing great at the job and she can’t let the name of the Good Fairy be tainted and so she agrees to switch back with Samantha. Now fitted with her wings, she asks Samantha to zap her to the nearest wheat field.
I give this one and a half stars because I LOVE that line about warshing in the warshing machine! That is one line that I remember from Bewitched from when I was way little! It's so funny!
I also liked when Mary was talking to the policemen and said, "Take your hands off me, you fresh young thing!" And her gallivanting down the street all drunk was really funny.
The client was rude and I can't imagine today that any client would want to go to the ad exec’s house not to mention just showing up willy-nilly.
Did you notice that Abner's hair is getting longer? George Tobias must've really been into the hippie movement.
The Bloody Mary stains changed from scene to scene. They were really dark in some and really light in others and the shape of it changed.
Tabitha should've been in this one. Sharon Orazi had the idea of having her explain to Mary about how she thinks her mother works too much.
I thought it weird that Mary didn't make some sort of comment about the Bloody Mary's. That would've been a really great joke.
