I know we've talked about this before, but I had to bring it up again. I just read that "Lost in Space" is coming out on DVD, and they're going to present at least a couple of episodes per season with original sponsor tags and commercials.
I just don't know why they couldn't have done this for the "Bewitched" season sets - if there was a problem with including those extras on every episode, why not just ONE or TWO per season? It's very disappointing to see all these other shows have these kind of extras, but ours' doesn't.
Do you think our complaints do any good? Do you think it might ever get re-released with any of these extras? Would it be that much of a problem to strip away the coding for a couple of episodes per season and replace them with original sponsor openings and cast commercials?
I do wonder what they have for original film elements in the Sony vaults. They did manage to use EM's special opening for "Sisters At Heart" and her "Next in color!" opening for season eight, so I wonder if the other similar "Next in color" blurbs from the other seasons exist, plus all of the sponsor openings with correct music. I read somewhere (maybe even here) something along the lines that, by season five, there was actually someone working on the DVDs who cared about the show, which is why the DVD box art finally matched the correct seasons.
I really hope they will remaster the show in HD and release Blu-rays with some of these special extras, but I'm not too optimistic without someone on the inside really pushing for it. I hope they'll at least remaster the show in HD for television and streaming.
Yes! It's too bad there weren't Bewitched fan conventions in the 70s and 80s to have unearthed all this stuff back then. I just finished watching Star Trek (the original series) for the first time, and I definitely envy the connection between the filmmakers and fans of that franchise, and how early it started.
