The wilderness area of the Oak Openings Metropark came alive today with the arrival of the coaching staff and invited players from last year's disappointing caveman team, each trying for a coveted spot as a retainee.
"We're optimistic," a smiling Coach Sam Rutigliano told the assembled media. "But, then, I was born optimistic. And remember we have three picks in the first two rounds."
General Manager, Tonda, indicated that ten players were invited to the minicamp. "Culpepper, is number one, Davis is number two, but number three is wide open. We're going to look at Green and Duce but each has a lot to prove. At wide out we've invited Anquan and Ashley. Any one of those four could be retained. We've also have Jordan, Pittman, and former Rocket Chester Taylor along with Chad 'I'll always be a Neanderthal' Lewis in camp".
One can only speculate that with the already evident demise of running backs in the league Toledo will hold on to as many of them as possible until draft day hoping that a sleeper may emerge.
Gone from this year's roster are fan favorites Brett Favre and Plaxico Burress, as well as the entire kicking and defensive teams, the injury prone Warrick, Moose, and Troy Brown, and the domestic violencely challenged Randy McMichael.
When asked about Ladell Betts and James Jackson, Tonda said the team tried to locate the duo but was unsuccessful. "They seem to have disappeared from the radar, but we're still looking."
