Posted by Las Vegas Bugler on 8/11/2004, 3:42:49 Feinstein has only tackled football once before (pun intended), in 1996's Civil War: Army Vs. Navy. This pending book will be his first venture into the game on the pro level. "The book will focus primarily on the Grifters," Feinstein described, "but the great thing about the football season is every team plays every other team at least once so I'll have plenty of opportunity to reflect on the rest of the league as well." Feinstein went on to explain how the storied Grifters franchise was the best subject for the book. "There are already several 'plots' brewing. Jake Bell will be owner and GM this season where he'd only held the latter title in the past. "This will reportedly be Marv Levy's last season as a head coach and his staff is stocked with several worthy candidates to be his heir-apparent: Brian Billick, Jeff Fisher, Herm Edwards. "This team was just two points from a perfect regular season. Who will return? Who will go on to other teams? Who will be the breakout stars of next year? "It also should be mentioned--though the franchise doesn't like to talk about it--that the Grifters are kind of the nexus through which the whole league is interconnected. Jake Bell brokers about 80% of the trades and has the ear of Commissioner John Madden 24/7. Following the Grifters is essentially following the entire league in a more compact form." Bell declined to comment on specifics about the book or Feinstein's access to the team, instead pushing the spotlight to another team. "I heard Michael Moore is doing a documentary on Bakersfield and some pudding Robby sold to the army. Fox News was all over it and if Fox News says it you know it has to be at least partially 10% true with a 15% margin of error!"

Following glowing reviews for his fourth book chronicling professional golf (Caddy For Life : The Bruce Edwards Story, Little Brown & Company, 2004)--a fortunate rebound after 2003 luke-warm reception for Open--author John Feinstein has announced his decision to tackle a new topic for his next tome: professional football.
