Posted by Tom Before he was Gilligan he was Maynard G. Krebs on "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillies," a funny and hip 50's TV show. When Rob O'Rourke blurted out the name Bossa Nova Beatniks at a band practice, I immediately thought of Maynard G. Krebs and was pleased to make that connection to my early childhood and one of my favorite TV characters. The B'n'Beatniks were not the only musicians influenced by Maynard G. Krebs. Bob Denver recorded an album under the name The Krebs and had a hit called "Like, What?" When Rolling Stone magazine asked Bob Dylan where he got the inspiration for "If Dogs Run Free", he said "I wanted to get that Krebs sound, you know, with the girls in the back, 'Like What?' "

Here's to Bob Denver who created the character that was somewhat responsible for the Bossa Nova Beatniks being called Beatniks.
His spirit lives on with the Bossa Nova Beatniks.
