Posted by Shaun Dale Tom Gould never fails to surprise, and the surprises he cooks up never fail to delight. It's no surprise at all, though, that he's done it again. You can find it via most any of the usual digital venues, and it's one well worth the finding. One of the best things that happens to me in my incarnation as a music writer is the arrival of news that Tom Gould has put together a new album. Even better is getting that album in my hands. Best yet is putting it in the player and hitting the continuous play button.
Gould, of course, is the driving force behind the eclectic collection of musicians who assemble under the Beatniks' moniker to interpret his similarly eclectic collections of songs. He proudly point to the inclusion of an actual Bossa (and a Samba!) on this one, but if Gould's about anything, he's about disabusing the listener of any preconceptions the name Bossa Nova Beatniks may offer. A little Bossa, sure, but a little bit country, a little bit rock n' roll and a whole lotta soul, too.
