The Herman Family/Kenneth Herman founded Jumbo Food stores and later changed it's name to Shoppers Food Warehouse. The Dart Group bought the chain in the 1980's. Then Richfood bought the Dart Group. Richfood had already bought Super Rite Foods (a PA wholesaler) who owned the Basics/Metro Food stores. Richfood was bought by Supervalu, who merged both chains into the SFW name.
