    Re: A&P's Coffee Brands

After A&P left Ohio and other markets in the 1980's, their Eight O'Clock coffee brand was starting to be carried by the chain's former competition, however, the bags don't bear the A&P logo, and is sold by Compass Foods, an A&P subsidiary. I think Procter and Gamble recently purchased the Eight O'Clock brand (selling it alongside its Folgers and Millstone brands), as A&P was divesting. A&P's other coffee brands were Red Circle (carried in either yellow or red bags) and Bokar (sold in black bags). I think Eight O'Clock was a medium roast, while Red Circle was a mild roast and Bokar, a dark roast-correct me if I'm wrong. Now the mild and dark roasts are under various Eight O'Clock labels.

: My maternal grandmother was a lifelong

: (in the mid-1980s which, ironically, is
: about the time A&P began to phase
: out its operations in the Midwest).
: Anyway, she always bought A&P
: coffee - usually Eight O'Clock, in the
: red packaging - but A&P had two
: other brands as well, both in
: coordinating packages, one in black,
: and the other in yellow. For the life
    : of me, I can't remember their names. I
: think the one in black was Bokar
: Square, or something like that, but I'm
: not sure, and the one in the yellow
: packaging escapes me entirely, and I
: can't find anything on the internet.
: Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    : Thanks.
