In Salt Lake City, (approx 3300 S and 3300 E) there was a Smith's Food and Drug Center on one end of the parking lot and a Fred Meyer on the other end of the Parking lot. Kroger kept both stores open and even remodled the Smith's and added a fuel center to the Smith's. Both the Fred Meyer and Smith's were "competeing" with each other for about eight years after the Fred Meyer/Smith's meger. Finally in 2004 when all Utah Fred Meyer stores were rebranded as Smith's Marketplace the Smith's Food and Drug was shut down as the Fred Meyer was converted to a Smith's Marketplace

: There is an interesting phenomenon in the
: Buckhead area of Atlanta. On Peachtree
: Road there are two Kroger stores
: operating virtually across the road
: from each other. What makes this
: interesting is that neither store was
: originally a Kroger. One was originally
: and A&P Food Market and one was a
: Harris Teeter. Both chains exited the
: ATL market several years ago-both
: stores still retain their original
    : exteriors and interiors-the only
: difference is the Kroger logo replacing
: the old signage. Have you seen a
: similar occurance in your area with
    : your local chains?
