--Previous Message-- : There is an interesting phenomenon in the : Buckhead area of Atlanta. On Peachtree : Road there are two Kroger stores : operating virtually across the road : from each other. What makes this : interesting is that neither store was : originally a Kroger. One was originally : and A&P Food Market and one was a : Harris Teeter. Both chains exited the : ATL market several years ago-both : stores still retain their original : exteriors and interiors-the only : difference is the Kroger logo replacing : the old signage. Have you seen a : similar occurance in your area with : your local chains? : The former Harris-Teeter does not seem to be doing as well as the former A&P. The exterior architecture and store layout was very close to mid-90's Krogers, but the interior decor is still very much the scheme used in Food Emporium. Cherokee Plaza is a rebuild, one of the last A&P's to be built in Atlanta, the old A&P had Centennial architecture and a pressed-tin ceiling. Eckerd was a tenent of Cherokee Plaza before moving to a stand-alone nearer to Harris-Teeter. Harris-Teeter had a concierge, wine steward and procured game meat-offerings Kroger has eliminated or cut back on. Kroger took over the A&P after the chain exited Georgia in 1999 and got the Harris-Teeter when H-T left in the late part of 2000. H-T was acquired to protect market share and most redundent locations were shuttered. The former H-T would be a good cadidate for Kroger Fresh Fare, but will probably close at a future date.
