It is a wonder why Kroger already hasn't combined some of its store brands. Example is Fry's in AZ/Smith's in NM...both supplied from the Phoenix dist. center. And King Soopers/City Market/Smith's in the Rockies. And also Smith's in Nev combined with Ralphs (they already run Food4Less in Vegas)

: I just don't see it happening: too many
: anti-trust issues would result in
: divestures all over the country. I
: agree with those who state that KR may
: be interested in parts rather than the
: whole. Kroger is already a perilously
: unwieldly company in it has too many
: different banners and is simply
: involved in too many different types of
: retail operations. Remember in the 80's
: when Sears tried to diversify its
: operations to be all things to all
: people? It didn't work. I see this
: potential merger as potential disaster.

: I know that this board is about
    : history,
: but I am wondering in areas like
: Seattle, where Kroger operates the Fred
: Meyer and QFC banners, what would
: happen here? I can see Boise having
: both the Albertsons and Fred Meyer
: banners. But I can't see Fred Meyer,
: Albertsons and QFC all surviving in the
: Seattle Market. But I could see some
: becoming Fred Meyer Marketplaces, some
: QFC and maybe Kroger would introduce
: Food 4 Less here. Anyway, please
: forgive me for getting off the normal
    : history/architecture subject matter of
    : this board.
