Fresno is laden with old/dead retail, it's probably the best place I have ever been for finding "can tell's", such as "Can tell that laundromat was a Burger King" Many, many re-used stores. I plan to return some day to photograph the retail corpses and zombies that abound there.

One business there that isn't a supermarket, but would probably be good to photograph while it's still around is a Bob's Big Boy. It's on Blackstone Blvd, on the north end of town. I know there are a few left in the LA area, but other than in Michigan they are pretty much a dying breed. The Fresno one is a good example of late 60's-early 80's era of building design.

There is also a very run down former Big Boy about a mile and a half south of the current one, it is on an odd block where it's on a corner, and behind it on the corner of the paralell street is a gas station that has appropirated the Big Boy's distinctive sign, it's pretty odd looking. I think the gas station was once the BB's parking lot, and the the restaurant took up the whole end of the block.

Here's a link to the old Big Boy's former appearance, once can hardly believe the run down Chinese restaurant it is today was once this great structure.

    : Hi all...
    :
: I'm going to be making a quick trip to
: SF and Fresno this weekend for the
: first time since moving back east.
: Anything there that should be seen or
: preserved on film quickly before it
: goes away (other than Cala and Bell
    : stores)?
    :
: I won't have time to tour around
: outside the city, so the greater Bay
: Area is pretty much out this trip...
