Blackstone is on of the best roads for zombies I have ever been on. Every time I stop at someplace there I can tell what it was after going inside. If you have time to cruise Blackstone it is worth a trip through time.

: Yeah, there was a big article in the
: paper about it closing, and a lot of
: people turned up in the final weeks but
: the owner basically said there was too
: much competetion from new (And in the
    : typical Fresnan's mind
    : "better" restaurants out in
: River Park, and the business had slowed
: to the point where it wasn't viable
: anymore. (In addition to the pics I did
: get a breakfast and dinner menu from
: there!) I will try to add the pics to
: my Yahoo album sometime this week, or I
: can email them to you if you'd like.
    :
: Save Mart has remodeled all their
: stores here in Fresno within the past 5
: or so years, so you can't really go
: into them and see blatant traces of old
: chains anymore. There is a largely
: untouched Alpha Beta out on Belmont
: & Peach now operating as an R-N
: Market. The wall lettering has been
: painted from the original brown, the
: aisle hangers have been replaced and a
: few asiles have been replaced with that
    : tall "warehouse" style
: shelving but other than that it is
: still pretty much spot on for what a
: 70's A-B looked like, down to the weird
: (by today's standards) placement of the
: produce across from the meats.
    :
: And of course there's the Ventura
: Market, which is still an unremodeled
: Marina Safeway. (Safeway closed that
: one in 1984, it reopened the same year
: as the independent Ventura.) In that
: one, all the wall lettering is 60's
: Safeway, but the aisle hangers were
: just replaced a few months ago. The
: aisles seem to be the original ones,
: but the checkouts seem to be new. They
: are still the turntable style, though.
: I have some inside and outside pics of
    : that place as well.
