Re: What has happened to your Winn-Dixies?

I don't know about the rest of the country....but in Louisiana, we didn't experience anything totally drastic. There were only a few stores left west of Baton Rouge (about 20). Of those, 6 closed. Of the 7 closures, 4 are now empty stores (Marksville and Bunkie were their respective only other stores in town, stores in Lafayette and New Iberia had other locations still open). The stores in Pineville and Opelousas were bought by Super 1 Foods. Interestingly, Pineville has another, much larger (60,000sf vs 30,000sf) store still open. Opelousas replaced a former Delchamps that Super 1 had only been in for 4 years. The Tioga store became a locally owned operation. I do not believe any of the other stores in Louisiana were sold, although I could be wrong. --Previous Message-- : Ours in Louisville became Buehler's : Markets, same ownership as Buehler : BuyLow that has stores in southwestern : Indiana and area. However, today they : announced they're closing the remaining : few ex-Winn Dixies. One is slated to : become a Kroger, others may be resold : by Associated Wholesale Grocers. : : Wondering what has happened in the : other areas of the country, especially : KY and Cincinnati? : : On a related note, a fellow who has : lived in Lou for many years recalled : that there was a different BuyLow chain : in town, perhaps spelled differently, : circa 1970's or so. :
