I remember vividly at about 9:00 pm when we could see the red glow of the slag from Wisconsin Steel being poured onto the slag dumps near the mill. It lit up the sky. It was
to the south of our house on COmmercial. thanks for reminding me of such great memories. When the mills were open, there was work. The middle class thrived in our area. My grandfather used to say if you can smell the smoke, people are working... good old Serbian working class logic.
