I am trying to find out if there was a railway going from S.C. to OH. in 1870s and if so when it was under construction. If there is such a line were there any wrecks on it? I believe my 2nd great grandfather was a laborer for the railroad in 1870. I know that he moved from S.C. between 1870 and 1872 and was in Ohio in 1873. By 1880 his wife was listed on the census as a widow. I realize that he did'nt necessarily have to have died in an incident involving the railroad but it would narrow things down a bit. I am curious about the railway from S.C.>OH and what kind of work would a " laborer on railroad" do? Could he have been following the construction of the railroad and that could explain all the moving around?
Thanks in advance for any help or tips in finding answers to my questions.
Eileen
