that is always the first priority of a regime like theirs. They also might want control of the aid so they can take what they need first. Here is a statement the government made " The donors and the international community can be assured that Myanmar is doing its best ... to relieve the suffering of victims of Cyclone Nargis." Of course you are, sure right! More accurately IMO is this citizen's view. He said " The government only cares about it's stability not the people." And everyone will tell you the government can't possibly handle the job. They have like 15 aircraft whose operational ability is questionable, and they are the size of Texas. When Thai supplies arrived they had to be unloaded by hand ... they didn't have a forklift at the airport.. And search and rescue teams who knows. It makes me so sad that governments like this exist.
"'Incredibly frustrating' World Vision's Tim Costello is in Rangoon and says he is appealing directly to members of the military government to let more international help into the country.
He says it is incredibly frustrating because there is only a trickle of aid getting through.
"The government is trusting only those international organizations that have local capacity," he said."
Three Red Cross aid flights loaded with shelter kits and other emergency supplies landed in Myanmar Friday without incident.
"We are not experiencing any problems getting in (unlike) the United Nations," Danish Red Cross spokesman Hans Beck Gregersen said."
So if you want to donate The Red Cross or World Vison might be good bets too. How frustrating to work with these governments, who are not equipped to handle the challenge even if they had the best intentions..and with this Junta I'm not buying the best intentions!
