Posted by Bill Burroughs I seem to recall seeing a reference to a James Burroughs living in the Hampton Roads area but his info fromn the Census indicated that he was born in New Jersey, not Virginia. New Jersey has a very large Burroughs family, and I do not know their origin but I have seen no connections to the Virginia Burroughs. That fact may throw a curve into your research, but I thought that you ought to know. Let me know if you need more info and I will look it up in my records. Good luck!

Since I last posted I have found the grave of Elzy Burroughs Sr. and have made some early contacts with his descendents who live in Princess Anne County, Virginia (now City of Virginia Beach). They claim that their line (and thus mine) descends from the ancient Burroughs line of Princess Anne/Lower Norfolk, Virginia (e.g.m Christopher Burroughs circa early 1600s). Based on that, my family's tradition and a few other indicators, I believe that this connection is accurate.
