When users turn to import Panasonic/Canon/Sony MXF to Avid MC, lots of problems occurred from time to time. In this article, we will discuss how to freely import and edit MXF videos in Avid Media Composer natively.
To work around this, Avid offers following solution:
1: Place the MXF files into a new folder within the AvidMediaFiles/MXF folder (for instance: /Avid MediaFiles/MXF/2).
2: Launch media Composer and open a project.
3: Open the newly created folder in the Finder. Inside this folder, you will see a couple of new files created by Media Composer, in addition to the MXF files you manually added.
4: Drag the file called msmMMOB.mdb from the Finder into the project bin.
While such method is useless to me. Digging in Google, I finally found an alternative way. A common solution to get Avid Media Composer to ingest MXF files natively is to transcode MXF to DNxHD format, which is best supported by Media Composer. Actually, it's not as difficult as you imagine. To do that, you can use Brorsoft MXF Converter for Mac, which supports optimized presets for Avid Media Composer. Besides Avid, you can also export ProRes, AIC, MPEG-2 and more files for editing in Final Cut Pro, iMovie/FCE, Adobe Premiere Pro smoothly. If you running a Windows computer, please turn to the alternative Windows version - MXF Converter.
