Suffice it to say there are many folks running around in the Body of Christ today 'speaking words' over people or into their lives some may be future events, some may be unknown except by the person being 'spoken over', some are true & from God but a whole lot of these "WORDS" are just plain "Flesh" & of that persons (The one giving the word) own heart & mind.I have done this myself with good intentions(most of the time).THIS action does not make them a Prophet!! Today in the Church there are many who are calling themselves "Prophets" or "Apostles" but to be honest with you (&I have been a Christian 40+ years)I am not sure I have seen either one as far as I view these offices from scripture...If there are any they are very few & far between (IMHO). I guess I for one am sick of seeing folks that are so inmature that they run here & there always "Looking For a Word from God" instead of trusting "The more sure Word of Prophecy" Having been around the Christian Block for 40 years or so I have seen some wild things...Folks moving across the country at the drop of a 'word', other folks marrying another at the drop of a 'word' etc,,,etc,,, that is not to say I have not seen & received some good & true "Words" myself but the damage I have seen from this sort of unchecked activity has outweighed the good in my mind. Some Principles I look to: 1) Prophecy should always confirm & even take the 'backseat' to the written Word of God. 2) Vessels can be mistaken (cause they are flesh) in giving a word. 3)Even if A Word especially about the future or some given calling really bears witness with the one receiving it, that does not Mean it will happen automatically....we still as receivers need to walk the walk, in other words it is up to us & how we respond to God as we walk with Him day by day to see realizations of these "Words" 4) I tend these days to look at the persons Character who is giving the word(When I can). If they are sloppy Saints in their walk to me (though God could still use them)I would question the Athenticity of that given word. Matt
