Posted by Traci One of the reasons so many people are afraid to even try prophecy is because they are afraid of making a mistake. They are afraid of the scathing rebukes found in Jeremiah about false prophets. But these rebukes have everything to do with the prophet's motives, "leading the hearts of the people away from God" - not with making honest mistakes. In fact, in these cases, how could they be so powerful as to lead the hearts of the people away without some kind of supernatural exhibition? I think that actually, some "false" prophets really do have (or have had) some accuracy, even in foretelling the future. And that is what causes the people to put their trust in them in the first place. And I believe God's fierce anger is reserved for this activity - not for the bumbling or immature person who is trying to learn to hear God's heart more accurately. This is not to say that God will not correct those he loves. Traci
