Prophesy............what is it?

Maybe you and I have a different idea of what prophecy is. Speaking hope and encouragement to me is just that, it is not prophesy, from how I understand it.(Unless it is said by God, like "My little children do not fear") Case in point. Prophetic people spoke over Earl and Jana and said they were to go to Tahiti. If they were wrong Earl would have been out much money and it would have been an embarrassment to all involved, but they were on. Thats prophesy...sticking your neck way out if your wrong it gets cut off so to speak. Mind you I do not move in this realm and I am a novice about how the gifts are ministered...so I am wayyyyyyyy open to be wrong on my thoughts.
