Posted by Traci About "Prophetes," I have other posts along that line, check out the ones that refer to "telling the future." But also: When Alexander the Great came through and tried to take over the world and everyone began to speak greek, the Jews needed to come up with some word to describe a "prophet" "seer" "inspired miracle worker type of person." Instead of choosing several words (like the hebrew), they chose one. I call this the "Kleenex" or "countertop" principle. Just because it is called a countertop, doesn't mean that is all we do on it anymore. But we have generalized the word to refer to anything similar to the original counter-top, where we used to count out money in the local market. Facial tissues are called "Kleenex" because that was the first popular one made. But if I purchase a generic box, technically it is not Kleenex, it is a facial tissue. But, when I use the word "Kleenex," everyone still understands exactly what I am talking about. This is what happened with the word "prophetes." Good to hear from you!! Trace
