Curious about Joab

I am trying to understand God’s heart in 1 Chron 21:6. This is the story where David numbered Israel. This particular verse says that the command was repugnant to Joab. I have never considered Joab to have much the same heart as God in many matters. So why would this command be so repulsive to Joab? All he had to do was count. I remember being taught that God was mad at David here because the command meant that David was leaning on the numbers in his army for his strength and not God. Would Joab be upset here because he’d rather be fighting? Any thoughts? Traci
