Posted by Moses My former pastor (Pastor F.) was from New Zealand and was raised Anglican. (Not the one that just moved to Mississippi to work full-time in helping the recovery from Hurricane Katrina.) I think he received the H.S. under Dennis Bennett's ministry and he had been ordained in the ABC church for almost all of his ministry. He's now about 62. For 3 years I was on staff at my church as office manager and I couldn't believe the number of Spirit-filled Baptists that I met thru Pastor F. These were Pastors and members of other ABC churches, not from my own assembly. Pastor F. was highly involved w/ an organization that I believe was interdenominational amongst Baptist churches. It was called the Holy Spirit Renewal ministries and promoted being baptized in the Holy Spirit, the gifts of the Spirit, Spirit-filled worship, etc. All of this slapped the philosophy of the Chapel square in the face that all the churches out there were dead churches, etc. I have really come to realize that God's Holy Spirit is not limited to any certain denomination.

I've been a member of an American Baptist Church for 17 years (since 1989). My church received the Holy Spirit fairly church-wide in the 1960's and 1970's when the Charismatic movement was in full swing.
