"Pray with the spirit and the understanding also." Sing in psalms, hymns and 'spiritual songs . . ." How do you sing in spiritual songs? With the phrase "pray in the spirit" in mind as opposed to praying with understanding: Jude 20 But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Eph 6:18 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Isa 28:10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: 11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. 12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; So, I don't really think it is necessarily a command to "Pray in the spirit," but almost (and there are many who would say it was). But it seems that there is a difference between praying in the spirit and praying with understanding. There might be a different way to do this besides praying in tongues, but I haven't been introduced to it. I wouldn't necessarily say that every Christian "has to," but I would say that every Christian can and would be blessed if they did. Traci
