There are also many evidences of the spirit coming upon many in the OT - now that may not equal "being filled," but I'll toss it in the mix. So, here is my question: Jesus said it would be advantageous: "You shall be endued with power. . . to be my witnesses." Is it simply that when we receive tongues, we can witness better and are not afraid to die? I really think that anointing has very much to do with the answer. But the church I see is for the most part very powerless. And, I see many that do not have tongues that are more courageous than those with. I see many that are better witnesses, have more self-control (fruit of the spirit), and are great missionaries, but no tongues. Ahhhhh, "teach us. . ." That is a very interesting one also. Jesus said, "I have so much more to say unto you, but you cannot bear it for now. But I will send the HS and he will teach you all things. . ." So, was there more to be revealed to them? How much more? And how long were they going to continue to get things revealed to them and get taught by the HS? 50 years? 100 years? 1,000 years? If we are taught by the HS . . . I sure hope I'm not sounding like a heretic. I just can't help asking questions - and I am not afraid of them or their answers. I am a true believer in being spirit filled with the evidence of speaking in tongues. However, these are real questions that can have amazing implications on what we do with our current Christian lives and the future of our children and the moves of God in the future. I refuse to be like Hezekiah and care not for my children's lifetime. Thanks so much for taking me seriously, Helen. I'm not trying to be foolish and I'm not asking these questions for no reason. Great thoughts, Helen!
Is what Jesus and John had different in some way from what was actually poured out in Acts? Was Jesus talking about something different? John (the disciple) knew what Luke had written about John the B. when he finally decided to write his gospel. So what was John (disciple) trying to say? What was Luke saying?
Yes, but how? They already had power and authority. Jesus called him "the comforter." Is that it?
"The anointing. . ."
I think you have something there. What is the difference between "anointing" and what the disciples already had.
if we learn something new, how do we know it is the truth if the scriptures were only written for about 70-80 years after Jesus died? Do we rely on specifics or principles?
