Posted by Traci I hope you don't think I'm crazy after reading what I'll write. I have never heard this before, but I believe it is true. I believe there is such a tremendous calling on the church that we haven't been able to grasp it. I believe that we have placed Jesus in such a place that we have given him responsibility for doing everything for us. But, I believe that God's intent was for mankind to take dominion over the earth. I don't think he is going to do it alone - but his power through us. I don't think God is going to change the nature of animals during the millenium, or release the creation from its bondage. I don't think Jesus is going to set us free from death either - not alone. I believe that God wants us (bold here, how do you do bold type anyway?) to do it. It says that it will be the manifestation of the sons of God that will release the creation from its groaning. It says that "yet not all things are under his (Jesus) feet" . . . who are his feet? A part of the body of Christ. I think all things will eventually be under "all" of the body of Christ - and last of all, his feet. I believe we are to be logos - in every sense of the word, just like Jesus. I believe that John 1:14-18 was speaking of us, not Jesus. I believe that this verse is referring to the BHS. "He" here is simply a reflexive pronoun that refers back to logos. We just say "he," because we have an aversion to making God or his expression an "it." So, literally, this verse says: And logos was assembled into a body, a symbol of what is external with human nature with its frailties and passions, and tabernacled, occupied and resided in us. And we beheld and have seen (this/his) glory, the glory of the one and only, (which/who) came from the father, full of grace and truth. This verse comes after already speaking of Jesus in John 1 and John the Baptist in vs. 6-12. I believe then John the disciple moves to speaking about us! It says in v. 12 that to all who receive him, to those who believed in his name he gave the right, or full authority to become children of God - not of natural descent or of human decision or a husband's will, but "out of god generated." This same phrase, "ek theou egenneetheesan" is repeatedly used of Jesus, but I believe that it is here referring to us. We are not literally, "born of a virgin" nor was the seed that created us literally, "of the holy spirit." But v. 12 says if we believe, we have the "authority" or "right" to be "out of God generated." Forget about our past mistakes or our human heritage. Forget about all the rationale about why the supernatural isn't available to us. We need to quit saying, "Well Jesus did that because he was Jesus - - I am not." This verse says we are the same. When John the disciple says, "we have seen this glory" he means that they witnessed this glory being assembled into a body and tenting in them beginning on the day of Pentecost. The book of Acts was originally titled, "The Acts of Jesus Christ through the Apostles." I think they saw the infilling of the Holy Spirit a little different than we. I think John was trying to tell us that we are to be Jesus in the earth - in every way that he was. That is a little bit of what I believe that BHS really is: logos being assembled into flesh. When I consider all that this means, I am deeply implicated and disturbed. The church is falling so short. I begin to feel that we aren't really spirit filled at all. Do you see what I mean?
