I think the "letting process" of 2 Thessalonians 2:7 is still at work, but the pressure is building up behind the dam. As America continues to debase itself spiritually, the cherished freedoms that depend on our right relationship with God are going to continue to wither away. We can't abandon our nation's founding principles and expect it to continue to be what it was. We'll just have to look up, and recognize that our redemption draws nigh.
