In fact, I have preached against what I consider to be a kind of "fortress America" mentality that exists in parts of the Christian community. In Jeremiah's day, there were those who refused to believe that anything could happen to Jerusalem, because it was the apple of God's eye. "This is the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD," they said (Jeremiah 7:4). But Jeremiah referred to these as "deceptive words" that they should not trust in, and prophesied that the temple would suffer the same fate as Shiloh because of the wickedness of the people (Jeremiah 7:12-14; compare 1 Samuel 4:1ff). In like manner, there are Christians who think that America will be preserved through the things that are coming, because of its presumed centrality to the plan of God. They don't (or won't) see that a fall is coming. A good example is the movie "Megiddo," which depicted the President of the United States playing a crucial role in defeating the devil and the anti-Christ. I've often said, "America could fall tomorrow, and the plan of God will still come to pass. It's not tied to the fate of our nation." A world government is God's plan. But he is going to use the devil to get it started, then he is going to smash the devil and take over (the short version). Agreed (the very short version).

I don't think the coming world government (led by the anti-x) and all the avenues leading to it are a good thing. It's just that sometimes I think we lose perspective about America. America is not the epitome. And yes, I do believe that much of the judgment that is coming is because we have rejected God. ![]()
