Correction

David did not make Abner a general. I said that off the top of my head, but it's incorrect. He did make a pact with Abner, who promised to help solidify David's rule by bringing all of Israel under the tent, so to speak. After Abner was wickedly slain, David did refer to him as a prince and a great man (2 Samuel 3:38).
