Posted by Greg on 5/7/2006, 4:47 pm I went to the other board this morning and found things over there pretty dead; not much activity. So this afternoon I decided to pop in over here, and everyone is still here posting away as before. Now to tell you honestly, I like this board format better, and was reluctant to switch to the new board format. Are we still here because we like it here better? Is is easier? Maybe if the other board wasn't divided into so many rooms. I think maybe three or four instead of the eight or so. I feel sort of lost wandering from room to room wondering where the fellowship is. I do like the "rubber room" where folks who just want to rant against the Chapel are free to have fun. Anyway, Hi everyone over here. I just had a little operation last Friday and sitting is kind of uncomfortable. Its amazing how fast anesthesia works. I spent more than an hour in pre-op reading and re-reading a Time magazine. They hooked me up to an I.V. and did all the routine things in pre-op. Finally I was wheeled into the operating room and switched to the operating table. They placed my arms out on boards, one for the blood-pressure cuff, the other to allow for better access to the I.V. tube. I made a little joke about "modesty being thrown out the window in a place like this" and ever so briefly looked up at the operating room lights. The next moment I was being awakened by a nurse in the recovery room. There had been no feeling of falling asleep or going unconscious. No dreaming. No awareness of the passage of time. Just, "BLINK" and I was in a different room feeling alert, but slightly unbalanced. I looked on with interest as the nurse monitored my heart rate. She expressed concern that it was still down at 47 bpm so injected something into the I.V. which immediately brought it up to 60. (My normal resting rate is 64 bpm). I only wish the recovery from this little operation were so easy. It's been a painful couple of days, and this particular operation takes a couple of weeks to heal. I've mostly rested this weekend though I have managed to mow the lawn, repair a break in the sprinkler line, clean the offices (at work) and do a few other chores. I have been reading a book called "The Life and Religion of Mohammed" and have read several chapters while sitting painfully on the toilet. I joked with my wife that I will probably ever associate the "Life and Religion of Mohammed" with this particular discomfort.
