It sounds like he is using his therapist as an excuse. Unless there is some kind of abuse going on,(physical, mental, emotional or addiction) I really don't hear a therapist telling him to leave you. A therapist would tell him to be honest with you and I don't buy into the "I'm addicted to you" bit. It sounds like he is using you for something and maybe he has come to realize that.
Try reading up on addictions of any kind and you may find a pattern with him if he is truly addicted to you. Good luck.
