So, if I understand correctly, the first three issues have essentially been a new origins for the Celestials, Eternals, etc.
The Celestials in previous origins did their genetic experiments for different reasons given per story. Two previous ones are:
1. Eternals to test a species longevity with a lifespan of thousands of years. Deviants for genetic diverstiy. And benevolent mutations for various reasons.
2. In X-Men: Forever it was to create a species who would eventually become the Eternity of the next universe.
Now the origin seems to be to serve the Fulcrum, which is cosmic balance. The Celestials do their experiments and visit in different host to update it. If the Eternals are the dominant species than the Celestials consume the planet and the energy of it. If the Deviants are the dominant it is supposed to be the Horde, which are like cosmic locusts. Somehow by wiping out planets this is supposed to serve the Fulcrum. How exactly?
But whenever the Celestials showed up for the second host something went wrong. Arishem the Judge refused to alert the Fulcrum and summon the Horde. Instead he and the other Celestials decided to reduce the Deviants down in number and perhaps even take action to prevent them from reproducing in such numbers again. When the Dreaming Celestial attacked in protest the other Celestials defeated and imprisoned it. It was only later the Dreaming One figured out that Earth has such an abundance of life energy that either Celestial or Horde getting it would shift the balance to far in one way which is why Arishem did not summon the horde. The Dreaming Celestial is now trying to figure out what to do with Earth.
Did I get that correct or miss something? Are the Celestials now just a race of Galacti?
I think I liked the other origins better.
This also begs the question on why a race of Deviants such as the Skrulls have not been devoured already.
I may get this series in tpb form, but I may not. The Dreaming Celestial was supposed to have committed a grave crime against life beyond human comprehension. Now it seems to just got its instructions wrong? So far this series is a bit of a dour.
