Posted by Snow Maiden on October 5, 2005, 3:10 am, in reply to "Does Marvel Still Have the Rights to the Name " This applies to other companies as well. Drow elves are trademarked by Wizards Of The West Coast/Dungeons And Dragons. Which means if I want to have an elven race thatÕs similar I should look for another name. But, I could use the name for a tribe of gnomes with a different history and culture. This is because drow is simply another term for dark - itÕs in the dictionary. Dungeons And Dragons had some problems with TolkienÕs estate which is why you have hobbit like creatures called halflings. The devil is really in the details. It sounds like the person who told you this simply got trademark and copyright mixed up and Champions was trademarked. The most recent reunion was in an X-Men Unlimited issue and the assumption was that it was done to keep the trademark from going out of date. Hopefully, that helps.
