Posted by Edward G. Lingvai I am typing a message from a small town in the northwest part of the state of Ohio called Bryan in regards as to how the lyrics in your song from 1985 "Never Surrender" are connected to the 1946 movie "It's a Wonderful Life" with Jimmy Stewart. I know you were probably once the big around the time of that movie, which was made nearly forty years before your song was big. I understand the similarities were that the concert-goers in both the '40s and in 1985 comprised mostly of young women and girls, some probably as young as nine; ten; or eleven. Personally, among them were two sisters who went to school with me. One of them was ten at the time and lives down the road in Chicago; the other was nine then and now lives in a place where you couldn't easily get to on a bus; a car; or a train: Hawaii. The second girl that I mentioned is going to have a baby. Nowadays, I know how hard it is to know the distances between us. However, I never give up thinking about them or thoughts of contacting them. What I am actually typing about is how the lyrics are connected with the movie "It's a Wonderful Life". Jimmy Stewart plays a man named George Bailey, a small-town man whose life seems so desperate he attempts suicide. He always wants to leave his hometown of Bedford Falls to see the world, but circumstances and his own good heart led him to stay. He sacrificed his education for his brother's; kept the family-run savings and loan afloat; protected the bank from the hands of the greedy banker, Mr. Potter; and married his childhood sweetheart. As he prepares to jump from a bridge, his guardian angel (played by Henry Traveres) intercedes, showing what life would have become of the residents of Bedford Falls had he never lived. That's when he changes his mind about his wish. And that's to "never surrender" by making such cruel and heartless wishes like leaping from bridges and wishing he was never born. I'm certain that I find the connection inspirational for those who might become real-life George Baileys, mainly due to the economy of the US. I'm certain that seeing that movie from the 1940s inspired you to put it in a 1980s song. Edward G. Lingvai P.S. My home postal address is: 05106 State Route 576
