hey whats up..this is actually a question rather then a response becouse i dont know how to find the question area...any way...i just got my corn snake about a month ago and its only about a foot to a foot and a half long.i have been holding it everyday with out a problem and it has never shown any agression towards me..well just yesterday i put it in a bigger tank with a different set up and left it there with out bothering it so thet it can adjust..today i tried to pick it up and it showed agression towards me..i thought mabie it was becouse i had been holding my fiances new baby python and the cent was still on me..so i washed my hands and placed a rubber dish glove on my hand as precaution and tried again..it struck again..twice..but it felt as if it struck with its mouth closed if that makes a difference..i was thinking mabie its cause it doesnt know the cent of the rubber glove or mabie i didnt give it enough time to adjust to the bigger tank..i dont know.....any suggestions or conclusions/answers??
: What I think you should do is first dont try
: to pick him up after the sun goes down cause
: these snakes are noucturnal so most likely
: he is in his hunting trace after dark and
: will probably strike at whatever moves.
: second never pick up any snake with the
: smell of any other animal on your hands
: cause the snake will pick up the scent.
: third, move slowly and always pick up the
: snake with two hands from the back. if you
: pick up the snake from the front he may
: precieve you as a threat and may strike also
: they dont like having their heads touched.
: also try to pick up and hold your snake at
: least for ten or more minutes every day let
: him smell your lower arm and wrist so he can
: get use to you... basically pick him up on
: a daily basis but not so much that he gets
: stretched out. Also give him time to his
: self to relax.

: My snake has recently started to grow
: extremely rapidly, so he's noticably bigger
: now than he was about two months ago. Today
: my neighbor went to pick him up and he
: struck at him-- my snake has pulled himself
: into the striking position before when I
: have reached in to get him, but to my
: knowledge he has never bitten me.
:
: What can I do to get my snake more used to
: being picked up?? I'm worried about him
: getting big enough to actually do damage to
: someone before I can solve this problem.
