I have 1 corn snake that is of unknown gender, which I have had for about 9 years. Late last year, I purchased 2 corns at a show, 1 male and 1 female. They are currently housed in the same large enclosure, but I am in the process of building a group caging system. When introduced to the enclosure, the unknown corn immediatel became interested in female, and chased the male to the opposite end of the enclosure. The male usually stays at one half while the unknown and the female stay together. Recently after brumation, however, the male has been displaying courtship rituals with the female and has chased the unknown corn off. The male begins twitching when he slithers onto the unknown corn, and on a couple of occassions, I noticed him biting the side of the unknown corn. The male and unknown also have not eaten since I've tried to feed them after brumation, whereas, the female has. Is this another sign of mating behavior, or is it likely that the unknown snake is another male and they are fighting over the female? Can someone please help ASAP. I have taken the male out of the enclosure and have him in a smaller holding cage for the time being and will probably pick up a new 20 gal. long as a temporary cage for either the male or the unknown until my multi-caging system is built.
