Posted by max --Previous Message-- I suggest the temperature gradient. My corn moves around from the warmer side to the cooler side from time to time. He does like it a little cooler than some of the books suggest ~ 70 to 80 degree range rather than the 75 to 85 degree (or higher)range. It is best to start a little warm and adjust down if needed, as I did. I have an undertank heater, supplemented by a basking light. The basking light is controled by a dimmer and I adjust it as needed. Hope this helps.

As far as the UV requirements of a corn, there are lots of opinions out there but mostly I see the thought that corns don't need the UV as much as some other species. Remember, corns are most active at night and there isn't much UV available then. I have no extra UV for my setup. I've only seen my corn on the rock in sunlight once in 8 months, so I would think if he needed uv, he'd bask in the sunlight since it is available (although not directly, the cage is near a window but not directly in front of it).
