William Shatner, who just turned 75. Starting his Tv acting
career as a guy who is afraid to fly (a TZ episode). And
ending up currently as a Boston Tv attorney (who's afraid
to fry). Ha, ha. But of course we all know him as
Captain James T. Kirk, of the Starship Enterprises (there
was more than one). And probably that role was ultimately
responsible for so many other things that appeared on Tv,
in a scifi vane. Which means our favorite little puppet show,
too. And though Kirk had strick rules to obey, about what
he could do in the galaxy. He often broke or bent those rules
way out of shape, to do the seemingly better thing. Which
seemed to reflect the then US government's foreign polices
and military postures, at the time. With perhaps a smidge of
the olde manifest destiny, thrown in for good measure, from
time to time. Shatner faithful executed all these hackneyed,
arrogant, and pompous characterizations, carefully handcrafted
by government shill, Gene Roddenberry (and he had the nerve
to tell his fans to "get a life", in jest). Shatner's famous
body posturing trademark, the bend right arm, being copied
by all who seek to mimick his acting style (usually in jest).
He's since replaced that with his "surprised look", in his
more recent roles. So I guess the swagger has been retired.
Good luck, Mr. Bill. And I hope Sluggo doesn't bug you anymore.
